Up until August of 2016, I did not believe I could attain balance in my body because of a protruding disk in my lower back (caused by an injury in 2003). I was always into running long-distance and staying active but that only goes so far in terms of adding strength to one’s life. That all changed the day I started training with Geoff. I heard about Custom Kinetics from a friend who has been training there for the past few years. Medical intervention (read: pain killers and muscle relaxants) were not an option anymore so I signed a one year contract after the initial consultation.
I was aiming to improve my posture and to manage the back pain, in addition to putting on muscle mass (on a 141 pound frame). What I got in return was a huge shift in my perspective on what ‘working-out’ means. Over the past 7 months I have started dreaming functional patterns (which totally beats dreaming Excel sheets because of work stress), and my back pain has reduced to a point where I barely notice it. Within a few months I noticed a change in the way I approach life because of these workouts, one example being I enjoy dancing more because I can feel my glutes (which were non-existent earlier). There are days when life gets too heavy/overwhelming and after a workout with Geoff I feel like the ‘reset’ button has been hit (those yummy endorphins). I do not get the same boost in mood when I do my workouts at home and I understand why; it’s the chat during out sessions, filled with knowledge bombs, that act like a therapy session as well.
At this stage my goals (which I wrote down and passed on to Geoff) have changed from ‘fix my back’ to ‘gain more strength coupled with better balance. and a six pack would be nice too’. That’s a major shift in 7 months (2 sessions a week!). Geoff I have said this before to you, I say it again – you inspire me!. Thank you for the time and effort you put into improving other people’s health.
